Hey Doug, the reason we did not go with the R1 was that it is so wide like our old cbr600 was. We found that the v-twins like the RC-51 and the SV1000 are about 4 inches narrower and have a large amount of torque. We have made a complete drive kit that will be available to the public after some final testing on our race rhino. There are a couple things that we want to make sure we won't have any problems with..... Here are some pics.

Let me know if yo have any more questions. Jason

No problem Doug. We have been just getting complete engine kits off of EBAY. Good luck with your build and check back for the release of this kit. Jason

Hey Doug.....I probably see more RC51's than I do the SV1000's on Ebay.....also, when you are looking, it helps to be sure the engines are complete engines - with the airbox, the headers, all the covers, the carbs (if it's carbeurated) - you will find that some engines look like they have been sitting outside for a year......and then some look pretty cherry. I have had good luck with Fender Cycle (they are on Ebay)....super nice guys.....and I also bought my SV1000 from another company similar to them that is a large company and all they do is part out motorcycles.
It's also a great idea to get the instrument cluster off the same bike you buy the engine from if possible.......everything works together nicely that way...
Good luck - let us know how it goes!!!

Jason,
Looking at this I'm guessing you ditched the stock main gearbox and thus lost both reverse and the 4wd function by going to the chain final drive. I'm looking to do something similar, but I also want to keep the gearbox to retain both of those functions. Basically I'm looking for info on how to convert the gearbox input to chain drive to mate it up to the engine's output.
Any way to accomplish this that isn't overly complicated?

Any way to accomplish this that isn't overly complicated? You would probably be better off with a different engine like the Renegade or something like that. The chain drive gets complicated when you need to run 4wd. You also may be able to do a transfer case in the middle, but I dont know how you would fit that between the seats.

I'd most likely using a Polaris style gearbox, and looking at how the Polaris RZR drivetrain is arranged I don't see why one couldn't make a new input shaft for the main gearbox that accepts a sprocket rather than a pulley. This would let you easily mate it up to most any motorcycle engine's chain drive output shaft. It would also give you the benefit of easily changing your final drive ratio by simply adding or dropping teeth on the gearbox input sprocket.

The only question is how well the Polaris gearbox would hold up to the much more powerful engine.
